Who are you? - Blue Bouquet

Our Names –

Drue and Neil Carr

We are From

Blue Bouquet – Wedding Florist

Kansas City, MO

Vendors that you should know about–

Berg Event Space

Ron Berg has been a strong presence in KC photography (not wedding photography) for a long time now. He's got this great studio down at 1525 Grand Blvd Recently he hired Sandy Riley to help him rent the space out for events. She's doing a fabulous job of it, too. If you happen to be a bride looking for a great space for a small to mid-size reception, check out www.bergeventspace.com. As you'll see, it's not exactly traditional. Still, it's definitely classy and even elegant in its way.

Michael Beers

Michael fronts the Michael Beers band. They've been at it for many years now and they are really on top of things as a band. Still, the real winning feature is Michael's personality. He's just a stand up guy. A lot of fun and a lot of encouragement when you need it. We are lucky to have him as a friend. Also, if you ever get the chance to see his place, jump on it! He's got a wonderful condo overlooking the plaza. We'd gladly trade the house, the shop, and both of our dachshunds for a piece of his view.

Our favorite flowers

Picking a favorite flower is almost like picking a favorite color. You can evaluate a color on it's own but it doesn’t become truly compelling until you surround it with other colors and look at it in perspective. Take a color like brown. Not any special brown, just the standard variety that comes in a pack of 8 crayons. It can seem awfully boring on it’s own, but if you set it next to a nice pale blue it becomes very interesting. It’s the same with flowers. Every flower is put into a new perspective by the colors and textures that surround it. Just the same, we do have our favorites here at Blue Bouquet. Peonies, English roses, and certain orchids rank high on our list.

When we are bored you’ll find us-

Anywhere but home. We can't handle sitting around the house in those ever-so-rare moments when we have nothing to do. You might find us wandering the plaza, if you’re lucky. We're dedicated people watchers and the plaza is a good place to do it.

You should check out–

French Beaded Flowers. They were all the rage in Europe a couple hundred years ago. Basically, they are flowers made of seed beads. Seed beads, of course, come in all colors and finishes, so with some creativity there are no limits to what you can pull off. Now, I know it sounds strange that Blue Bouquet, as a floral shop, would push fake flowers, but it’s not as if we are pushing silk flowers. You got to draw the line somewhere between affectionate admiration of nature and poor imitation of nature.

One website you should check out-

Pandora.com – It's a great site. You enter a song or artist that you like and it starts to play music in that style or genre. If you like what you hear, you give it a thumbs up. If not, give it a thumbs down. No commercials. Just music. After you've got it good and trained to your tastes you can save your station so that you can come back to it later. It's so much better than online radio. The interactive element is great fun.

Something we can not live without-

Water...Drue keeps a bottle beside the bed when she sleeps. Oh, and sleep too. It would be hard to live without sleep. I'm convinced we don't get enough of it.

Music that we listen to-

So we've been listening to Pandora.com and lately we've discovered some interesting stuff –David Mead, Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, Ron Sexsmith, some band called Slow Motion Reign and a handful of others. These ones are all new to us and we're still checking them out. We'd give you the list of stuff that we already know and love, but it would be way too long for this questionnaire.

3 things I must do before we get old–

Skydive – it's cliche, but we haven't done it yet.

Europe – We are ashamed to say we haven't been.

Buy a pedal steel guitar – It's an overlooked instrument. Trapped in Nashville for too many years.

What would your friends or family say about you–

Probably that they don't see us as often as they should. We have so many wonderful friends and we both come from amazing families. We need to find a way to spend more time with them.

Perfect client–

Blue Bouquet's perfect client is the one who is excited about what we are doing. There’s nothing that builds energy more than a bride/groom with a lot of passion and a genuine appreciation for design and beauty. Of course, that excitement can always get out of hand, but we’d rather take our chances than work with clients who just don’t care.

The part of my business that leaves our tired-

All of the little things that add up –visiting the bank and the post office and ordering supplies and a million other such things. At the end of the day, you’ve done many important things, but you feel like you have nothing to show for it. Those days can be a little depressing

If not florists, we would have been-

Pirates, of course. That’s how it all happened. We very much wanted to be pirates, but the pirating industry has been suffering for a few years, so we went with the next best thing.

Something we're proud of-

Our two nieces, Mia and Ginger. They are both about a year and a half old and we’re convinced they are the two cutest babies in the world.
