Well, back to reality. And let me tell you, reality sucks when it's cold outside! Anyway, we have cleared our heads and are ready for the season to start. This is the biggest season to date. We have a lot of new things to talk about - but I do not want to let the cat out of the bag yet!

Day 5
What a sad day for us..... Our last full day in sunny Florida. Today we thought we would share with you the place Jason went every single day to work on the blog photos.... The Blackhawk Coffee Shop.
Here he is working on one of the comfy couches.
After yet another shopping trip, we came back to the house to relax. Here I am lounging in the pool for the last time....sniff sniff
And now, my final thoughts. Jason and I desperately needed a vacation by ourselves.... a chance to catch our breath and recharge our batteries. We definitely experienced that down here. Since we were so relaxed, our creative juices were just flowing like crazy, and we now have some new ideas for our future.
Kansas City is our home, and it probably always will be. We love it dearly. However, we discovered this little piece of paradise and we would love to make it a regular part of our future. We will be starting to advertise for wedding photography in the Ft. Lauderdale and Sanibel Island areas soon. We do not know why we never thought of it before (since Jay's uncle and grandmother live at a resort that frequently hosts weddings). I guess we just had to fly halfway across the country to clear our heads and brainstorm. We would like to make 3 or 4 week long trips a year, or 1 month long trip every year for weddings. We have even started researching homes and condos in the area already. It is a pretty lofty goal, but why not? You only live once.
Day 4
Today, we found our personal paradise. We spent the day on Sanibel and Captiva Islands. These amazing islands are located about 4 miles off the mainland of SW Florida, right on the Gulf of Mexico. When we first arrived on the island, we visited the Chamber of Commerce to get some information. The first picture is of the Chamber building. Don't you just love it?!?
We ate lunch at The Island Cow, one of the locals' favorite spots. Jason had the fried clam sandwich, and I had the Shrimply Fabulous wrap. It was packed with gulf shrimp and lots of fresh veggies. I have never in my life eaten more seafood in such a short period of time than I have down here.
This is the sign you view when entering the Chamber of Commerce. Funny, huh?
Jason has found a new love.....fruity fru fru girly drinks. I ordered a Strawberry Daquiri and he decided to try the Sanibel Sunrise. Don't ask me what's in it, but he loved it. Later on in the day at another restaurant he ordered another one. I think it was a Strawberry Colada. What a fruit loop.
Reading the menu at The Island Cow.
Ok, we have super sonic coffee shop radar. I mean here we are, in paradise, and we spent countless hours in various coffee shops blogging for all of you! We must really love you all. Anyway, this was The Sanibel Bean on Sanibel Island. Truthfully though, even though we were "working" in a sense, it was still heavenly. I mean how often do we get to just go to a coffee shop whenver we want without kids in tow and chill out?
We visited the Ding Darling refuge on Sanibel Island. You can either drive, walk, or bike through or take a guided tour. The amazing thing about Sanibel is that so much of the island is protected and will never be built on. The wildlife was breathtaking. This is a blue heron that we came upon. Isn't he beautiful?
Another Island Cow shot...
I meant to bring my information today so I could put the correct names of all these birds on here, but I forgot it. Anyway, here's some kind of really big bird flying over some smaller ones..... :-)
We watched the sunset from Bowman's Beach on Sanibel. Truly breathtaking.

Day 3
Today we traveled over to the east coast of Florida to the Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach area to visit Jason's grandmother. She lives and works at an amazing resort right on the water. We were shown this tree that we have affectionately dubbed "The Love Tree". Doesn't it look like two people in an erotic pose of some sort?
When we got back we just vegged out in the pool before dinner. The pool itself is nice and warm, but the water coming from the waterfall is even warmer. I could stay here all day.......
Jay and I at the resort beach. Look at that blue blue water....heaven I tell you, just heaven.
Ok, people. We're down in sunny Florida with white sand beaches, blue water, palm trees everywhere, but what was the biggest thrill of all? Can ya guess? DUNKIN DONUTS!!!! Up in New England, there is one on every corner, and when we visit there every year, we are daily customers....sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. We were flipping out when we found one, as they aren't as prevalent down here. If you haven't had a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, you are seriously deprived. It's not like a Starbuck's iced latte or coffee......it's like in an entirely different category. On an entire different planet of coffee yumminess. Seriously, put it on your list of things to do before you die.
I tried to convice Jay to scale one of these palm trees so we could crack open a coconut. He didn't buy it.
More stunning beach views....
The coast guard lighthouse at the resort in Pompano Beach.
Day 2
Shopping at the Miromar outlets. Um, can you say heaven? Every fab store under the sun is here with even more fab prices. I think the Coach factory store was my favorite. I'll show you my new bag when we get back.....
We had a fabulous lunch oustide today. I'm oh so enjoying sipping my margarita.
These were some crazy friggen birds. They hover around the tables, and if you aren't keeping an eye on your food, they will actually swoop down and take food off your plate! Some guy at the table in front of us lost some of his enchiladas to the birds.

More shots of the digs.....
The whole house has big sliding doors that open up to the pool so you can go in and out freely. The pool and patio are just another room. What a great way to live.
Another view of the pool. Over in the corner is a sweet built in barbeque grill. We grilled some super yummy steaks on our first night here.

We have arrived.....
First and foremost, a million gazillion thanks to Susan for hooking us up. You rock! Seriously though, we wouldn't have made this trip without your generosity. We hope everything is ok back in chilly rainy KC. We're sure that while you are having a blast with your kids and grandkids, you must be looking forward to returning to paradise......we know we are.
Sorry everyone that the photos are a little out of order. Blogger.com just kept screwing everything up and since we're trying not to stress out this week, we just said to heck with it. You'll still get the picture.
Our digs for the week.....oh yeah.
Arriving in paradise....
This little guy suctioned himself to the door to the bedroom on our first night. He was so cute and he slept there all night long!
Goofing off on the plane....well at least one of us.

The pool...with waterfall...... nuf said.

WE ARE ON VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow we leave for Fort Myers, Florida for a much needed break! We will be checking email - MAYBE. We will return all phone calls as soon as we get our patooties back in gear when we return. Oh yeah that will be next Tuesday!
This is the first vacation that we have taken without our children in....well forever! They will be staying home with the grandparents who have graciously moved into our house to watch over things. They will probably be pulling their hair out by the time we return, but oh well. Ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. White sand beaches here we come.

Lindsay & Peter Engagement
I have never laughed so hard at an engagement session like I did at this one. You know I photograph a lot of couples, but every few years you find a couple that just gets it! You see it through the lens and BAM it hits you.... "this is what it is all about". These two truly love each other! This is going to be a great wedding, I cannot wait!
Lindsay trying not to smile - I think we hit it on the 300th shot!
This a very special place for Lindsay and Peter. This is where they met....The Wheel in chickenhawk land!

Do you know how hard it was to shoot this being married to a K-State grad?

Casey Todd
I had the chance to see (again) a very talented singer by the name of Casey Todd. If you have never had a chance to hear this kat you are missing out on a great show!
Enjoy some of the shots from last night...
